Madge Wildfire is a fictional character from Sir Walter Scott’s 1818 novel, The Heart of Midlothian. Born Margaret Murdockson, Madge is portrayed as a tragic and complex figure whose life spirals into madness following a series of personal misfortunes, including seduction, abandonment, and the loss of her child. Her character embodies themes of social injustice and lost innocence, serving as a poignant reminder of the consequences of societal rejection.
