Blood Orange & Ginger Wildfire Mule

Adding ginger beer gives this cocktail a zesty and slightly spicy kick, which pairs beautifully with the bold citrus notes of blood orange gin. This twist on a classic Moscow Mule offers a refreshing and lively flavor profile.

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 50ml blood orange-infused gin

  • 25ml fresh blood orange juice (approx. half a blood orange)

  • 10ml lime juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 10ml honey syrup (1:1 mix of honey and warm water, cooled)

  • 100ml ginger beer (chilled)

  • Ice cubes

Garnish

  • Thin slice of blood orange

  • Crystallized ginger or fresh ginger slice

  • Sprig of mint (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass: Use a copper mule mug (for tradition) or a highball glass. Fill it with ice to chill.

  2. Mix the cocktail:

    • In a cocktail shaker, combine 50ml blood orange gin, 25ml fresh blood orange juice, 10ml lime juice, and 10ml honey syrup.

    • Add a few ice cubes and shake briefly (around 10 seconds) to mix and chill the ingredients.

  3. Assemble the drink:

    • Strain the mixture over fresh ice in your prepared mug or glass.

    • Top with 100ml of chilled ginger beer.

  4. Stir gently: Use a spoon to combine the ingredients without losing too much carbonation from the ginger beer.

  5. Garnish:

    • Add a thin slice of blood orange to the rim or float it in the drink.

    • Place a small piece of crystallized ginger or a fresh ginger slice on top for a spicy aromatic touch.

    • Optionally, add a sprig of mint for an extra refreshing note.

  6. Serve immediately: Sit back and enjoy the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and citrusy flavors.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Bright citrus aroma with spicy ginger undertones.

  • Palate: The juicy blood orange gin harmonizes with the zingy ginger beer and the subtle sweetness of honey and lime.

  • Finish: A warming ginger spice lingers, balanced by the fresh citrus kick.

This cocktail is fantastic for autumn afternoons or winter evenings, offering a bold yet refreshing twist on the traditional mule. Serve with charcuterie, smoked almonds, or a tangy citrus dessert!
